Connecticut is part of the New England region in the
Northeast. Connecticut was one of the thirteen original British
colonies. The name "Connecticut" comes from an Algonquin Indian
word meaning "on the long tidal river" referring to the
Connecticut River.
Connecticut's 2000 population was 3.4 million. The capital is
Hartford and the largest city is Bridgeport. Other large cities
include Danbury, New Haven, New London, Norwich, Stamford, and
Waterbury.
