Tips for working with Utah County Lenders
Get recommendations: Ask friends and family members for
suggestions, especially if they've recently obtained a loan.
Check credentials: Utah County Mortgage brokers are regulated by the
division of real estate. Check with the division of real estate in Utah
to see if a lender is in good professional standing.
Mortgage brokers may be state regulated or not. If not, check with the
local chapter of the National Association of Mortgage Brokers or the
Better Business Bureau to see if their record is clean. It is advisable
to hire a mortgage broker that is licensed with the Utah division of
real estate.
Do your homework: Learn about typical mortgages and ask
questions when something looks amiss; a broker may be trying to pad
closing costs or other fees at your expense. Ask for a good faith
estimate prior to starting the loan process. This will give you a true
estimate of the cost of the loan. A lender is required to be within a
tight margin of the good faith estimate at closing.
Take care online: There are plenty of attractive deals
online, but first make sure you're dealing with a reliable broker or
lender. It is wise to hire a lender in Utah County you can meet face to
face and that will attend your closing.
Extra care during peak season: Unscrupulous lenders and brokers are more
apt to quote you bogus rates or slip in extra costs during peak home
buying season, in hopes you won't notice. Please discuss the rates the
mortgage broker wants to charge you with your Realtor.
